So I’m looking at this from a Gender Studies perspective since that’s what my degree is in. I think that in order to have this conversation we have to acknowledge that barriers that come with seeing a concert. Concert=money and I’m sure that some tickets aren’t cheap. We also have to look at who has access and who doesn’t? Because this also falls in line with privilege and the fact that some black queer folks don’t have access to that space. I see a lot of theatre where there’s majority white audiences and part of the reason is because of the fact that black people have a lack of access to the arts. This is due to the classism (and if you want to get really deep, racism because American theatre started off as white people doing black face). The fact that there’s majority white people in the room at the concert is no different than what happens at the theatre.
